Ahmedabad Prepares for India’s Biggest Sporting Event
The Government of Gujarat has accelerated a massive crore infrastructure plan to prepare Ahmedabad for the Commonwealth Games 2030. This includes upgrades to mobility, stadium infrastructure, hospitality capacity, and green energy systems.
The initiative is managed under a coordinated effort by AMC, AUDA, GMRC, the Police Commissionerate, and the Urban Development Department.
Here’s a detailed look at the core development areas shaping Ahmedabad into a world-class host city:
Major city roads connecting Motera, Sabarmati, Chandkheda, Airport Road, and GIFT City are being widened to 6-lane express corridors.
New flyovers and underpasses are being planned to reduce traffic congestion during peak CWG events.
The proposed Metro Phase-II will directly link Narendra Modi Stadium, Riverfront Arena, and the airport. Work on site planning and design is initiated.
Sardar Patel Sports Complex and TransStadia Arena will receive modernized seating, athlete zones, LED lighting, medical rooms, and broadcast-level enhancements.
A new surveillance ecosystem involving drones, high-resolution CCTVs, and AI-based monitoring will be deployed around all stadiums and tourist zones.
The CWG 2030 development plan will bring long-term benefits to the city.
An estimated 2 million visitors are expected during the Games.
Local businesses, hotels, and transportation services will see massive demand.
Expanded metro, flyovers, and express roads will improve day-to-day travel.
Ahmedabad will attract global investors, sports bodies, and media networks.
