Union Home Minister reviews progress on three major sporting events planned for Ahmedabad, with Mandaviya, CM Patel and Sanghavi in attendance
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting in Ahmedabad on August 27 to assess preparations for three major sporting events planned for the city: the 2030 Commonwealth Games, the 2029 World Police and Fire Games, and India's bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, according to IANS and Akashvani News.
The meeting was held at the Circuit House Annexe in Ahmedabad's Shahibaug area as part of a one-day visit by Shah to Gujarat, Yardbarker and Mangalorean reported. Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi attended, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and representatives of the Gujarat government, according to Akashvani News and Asianet Newsable.
In a post on X reported by IANS, Shah wrote: "Today, chaired a review meeting on India's bid for the 2036 Olympics, as well as preparations for hosting the 2029 Police and Fire Games and the 2030 Commonwealth Games, in Ahmedabad."
He added that "Modi Govt is firmly committed to establishing India as a global sporting destination by hosting international sporting events," according to IANS and Asianet Newsable. Akashvani News reported that Shah was briefed separately on the progress of sports infrastructure and related projects being developed to international standards for the events.
Ahmedabad's preparations as host of the Games were reviewed, following the flag handover from Glasgow 2026.
Progress on hosting this event in Ahmedabad was also assessed at the meeting, according to Yardbarker.

The review meeting was one stop on a busy schedule for Shah in Gujarat, Mangalorean reported. Earlier in the day he inaugurated the 'Het Ni Haveli' lake at Panchganga Tirth in Amreli district, and later in the day he was chief guest at Gujarat Vidyapith's 72nd convocation ceremony in Ahmedabad, where about 900 students received degrees, according to Mangalorean.
Mangalorean also noted that Shah had held a similar review with Mandaviya and Chief Minister Patel in May to assess progress on sports facilities and related projects, indicating the review is part of a recurring monitoring process rather than a one-off visit.
The meeting brought together India's home minister, sports minister and Gujarat's top two elected leaders in a single sitting devoted to Ahmedabad's sporting calendar, underlining the political weight attached to the run-up to 2030.
It signals continued central government oversight of Ahmedabad's preparations, three years after the city was confirmed as CWG 2030 host.
