India is preparing to host the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2030, with Ahmedabad proposed as the main host city. Former Union Sports Minister and BJP MP Anurag Thakur said the country plans to organise the event on a grand scale as India strengthens its position as a global sporting hub.

The 2030 Games will mark 100 years of the Commonwealth Games movement. India’s preparations aim to build upon the model of the 2026 Glasgow Games while showcasing the country’s growing capability to host major international sporting events.

India's Vision for Major Sporting Events

According to former union minister, sporting events in India are becoming bigger and better with each passing year. Hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games is seen as a significant opportunity to demonstrate India's infrastructure, organisation, and sporting excellence on the world stage.

India is also actively pursuing its bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, which would further elevate the country’s global presence in international sports.

🏟 Main Sporting Hub

Ahmedabad has been proposed as the central hub for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with modern sports facilities and the potential to host multiple international competitions.

🏗 Infrastructure Development

Officials in Gujarat have confirmed that preparations for the Games are progressing steadily, with most infrastructure work expected to be completed by the end of 2028 or early 2029.

🌍 Global Sporting Ambition

Hosting the Commonwealth Games is expected to strengthen India's position as a future Olympic host, supporting the country’s bid for the 2036 Olympic Games.

India's Previous Commonwealth Games Experience

India previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010. During that edition, India finished second in the overall medal tally with 101 medals, including 38 gold medals.

However, the 2010 Games were overshadowed by corruption allegations at the time, which sparked widespread criticism and controversy despite the strong performance by Indian athletes.
